Photography for Youth - Focus on the Community

This is an exhibit of images created by youth from the community served by the Somerset West Community Health Centre. The youth took many photographs of friends and family which are not included in this selection.

The objective of the program was to teach the technical aspects of the camera and the art of photography to youth between the ages of 9 and 15. Using photography, we intended to capture the imagination of the youth, to engage them in their community by taking photographs of their environment, to empower them, building confidence, self-esteem and hope.

This project was funded by the City of Ottawa under their 2006 Community Project Funding Program. The project was organized and brought to the youth through several workshops, by volunteers from the Camera Club of Ottawa
