Alan Wilkinson is an artist and educator. Born in Montreal, he was educated at Vanier College and Queen's University. He has a Master's Degree in Education in which he conducted research into the effects of learning about art by studying original works versus studying from reproductions. He taught secondary school art for 32 years after which he started a second career as a Lecturer in Visual Art Education at the Faculty of Education at Queen's University. He is currently in his 12th year teaching at Queen's instructing courses which include Intermediate/ Senior Art Education, Drawing and Painting (studio art), as well as Theory and Professional Practice. He maintained his personal art practice in Kingston at Sydenham Street Studios until 2010 and since then at Miner and Wilkinson Photographers located at 209 Wellington Street (Kingston). He works in digital as well as in film - 35mm, 2 1/4 roll film as well as 4x5, and 8x10 sheet film. He is currently in the gradual process of moving to Ottawa and Feb. 26 marks one of the first Tuesdays in February that he has been able to be in Ottawa rather than on campus in Kingston. He is looking forward to speaking to the camera club and to meeting its dedicated members.
