From the CCO Operations Manual, Section 5.12
Should one of the Club Print Competitions be a Portrait Competition, the competition rules and topic definitions shall be as outlined below. All other rules of the competition shall apply except that, in addition to any Awards of Excellence or Honourable Mention awards, one award shall be made to the best entry in each medium. These last awards shall be kept confidential, to be announced at the Annual Awards Ceremony with the presentation of the Best Portrait trophies.
Portrait photography or portraiture is the capture by means of photography of the likeness of a person or a small group of people (a group portrait), in which the face and expression is predominant. The objective is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the subject. The focus of the photograph is the person's face, although the entire body and the background may be included; in other words, the human element is the primary subject. A portrait should be a composed image of a person in a still position.
The "Open" category for this competition shall be limited to people photography. Any style of photo that includes people as the subject is permitted. Images in this open category are not eligible for Best Portrait (any medium).
